Lee Mount Academy MP Visit

Good morning,

There’s been plenty of action recently as the Government gets on with delivering changes that make a real difference to working people and families.

This includes strengthening day-one rights to parental and paternity leave, moving ahead with leasehold reform to give homeowners greater protections, and new steps to improve security and fairness for renters. Plans are also progressing through the Warm Homes Plan to help tackle fuel poverty, alongside work on the first Road Safety Strategy in over a decade to make our streets safer for everyone.

Here in Halifax, there’s exciting news too. After I called for our town to be included in the first UK Town of Culture competition, Calderdale Council has confirmed its intention to put Halifax forward. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our community, attract investment, and showcase everything that makes our town special, and I’ll be backing the bid all the way.

With council elections approaching, your local Labour councillors and I are out each week speaking with residents, listening to concerns, and sharing our positive vision for the area.

Thank you to everyone who’s been helping so far – there are a lot of people to reach, and every door knocked and leaflet delivered is a huge help. If you’d like to get involved in campaigning or support in any other way, I’d love to hear from you.

With many best wishes

Kate Dearden MP

Meeting and celebrating local students

Meeting local students, and celebrating their achievements is the highlight of my job.

Students from Primary School Lee Mount also came to my office this month, to show me their incredible paintings of iconic buildings in Halifax such as Wainhouse Tower and Shibden Hall. I was honoured to be given these pieces of artwork to hang in my office, which will serve as a constant reminder of the incredible talent we have here in Halifax, as well as the beauty and history of our town.

A huge thank you to Lola, Esme, Gracie-Leigh, Donald, Jemima, Tyler, Deacon, Joshua, Ava and Lillie for their individual artwork and canvas paintings. We clearly have some real budding up and coming artists in Halifax!
